INTRODUCTION
Many changes in today’s competitive environment are managed as projects; unique efforts that
require dealing with budgeting, deadlines, working with multi-disciplinary teams, personal
strengths and weaknesses. [11] Project management focuses on planning and organizing a project
and its resources. This includes identifying and managing the lifecycle to be used, applying it to the
user-centered design process, formulating the project team, and efficiently guiding the team through
all phases until project completion.
Through proper project management, you can assure that the purpose/vision and goals of the project
are maintained, all while supporting the audiences’ tasks and objectives. Additionally, you avoid
risks and effectively and efficiently use your available resources. It also helps the team members to
understand their responsibilities, the deliverables expected, and the schedule everyone needs to
follow to complete the project on time and within budget. [9]

1. ESSENTIAL PRINCIPLES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Project – Group of unique, inter-related activities that are planned and executed in a certain
sequence to create a unique product or service, within a specific time frame, budget and the clients
specifications. [12]

Similarities:
-both are performed by people,
-both are planned, executed and controlled
-both have resource limitation
Often these terms are confucsing for everyone, so the importance of clearing the difference of two
terms such as Project and Operation is very important to figure out and not get lost in a project
management field.
Project management is the discipline of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the
work of a team to achieve specific goals and meet specific success criteria. It the application of
project management to the creation and development of large scale events such as festivals,
conferences, ceremonies, formal parties, concerts, or conventions. It involves studying the brand,
identifying the target audience, devising the event concept, and coordinating the technical aspects
before actually launching the event. The process of planning and coordinating the event is usually
referred to as event planning and which can include budgeting, scheduling, site selection, acquiring
necessary permits, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or entertainers,
arranging decor, event security, catering, coordinating with third party vendors, and emergency
plans. The events industry now includes events of all sizes from the Olympics down to business
breakfast meetings. Many industries, charitable organizations, and interest groups hold events in
order to market themselves, build business relationships, raise money, or celebrate achievement. [5]
Projects change the world we all live in. All great changes and achievements of our modern society
were not thinkable without the definition of projects. Just have a look at all the beautiful and
fascinating buildings, bridges and churches you can visit when you travel into...
